Maymon Cohen

Maymon Cohen is a liturgical singer and cantor in the Jewish Moroccan tradition and a soloist of the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra. In 2002 Cohen performed with Trio Andalus at the Oud Festival. He grew up in Kiryat Yam and studied the Piyyut tradition with students of Rabbi David Bouzaglo, the most renowned Moroccan liturgical Piyyutim singer of recent times. He studied the Andalusian Ala poetic tradition and Shirat HaBakshot with Rabbi Chaim Biton and Rabbi Meir Attia, both icons of the music and poetry of Moroccan Jewry. Cohen leads the educational program for Moroccan Jewish liturgy at Kehilot Sharot (Singing Communities), as well as lectures and teaches Piyyut throughout Israel.
