Peretz Eliyahu

Originally hailing from Derbent, Dagestan, Peretz Eliyahu is an Israeli tar player, composer and music researcher. Upon concluding his Bachelor and Master degrees at the Rostov Music Academy (Russia), he returned to Dagestan, where he taught at the Academy of Music at the National Pedagogical University of Makhachkala, capital of Dagestan. There he established and directed an orchestra of Eastern classical instruments. In Israel, he teaches at the School of Ethnic Music at Bar-Ilan University and at the Centre of Music and Dance of the East in Jerusalem.
